Thelma
Smith, age 95, of Lovilia, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Pella
Regional Health Center in Pella, Iowa.
She was born on June 25, 1913 in Monroe County to Arthur and Flossie
(Long) Ferguson. Thelma married Earl
Smith in Lovilia on July 20, 1929. He
later passed away on April 7, 1987.
Thelma
worked in the Lovilia school cafeteria and also operated a ceramics shop. A couple of her favorite hobbies were cooking
and sewing. She was also a past member
of the Eastern Star Lodge.
Thelma is survived by one daughter, Ilene
Pottorff; three grandchildren, Steve (Becky) Pottorff of Lovilia, Vicki (Jack)
Frost of Bussey, and Sharon (Dan) Ryan of Knoxville, Iowa; nine great
grandchildren, Mike Pottorff, Andrea Frank, Amanda (Jeremiah) Rebb, Bryce
Pottorff, Travis (Jenny) Frost, Tiffany (Gabe) Gilbert, Alyssa Ryan, Courtney
Ryan, and Kamryn Ryan; and four great-great grandchildren, Jalen Frost, Tristyn
Frost, Brayden Gilbert, and Isabella Gilbert.
Thelma was preceded in death by her
parents; husband; one half brother, Harold Wester; and one son-in-law, Bud
Pottorff.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM,
Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Gilbert Funeral Home, Lovilia Chapel with Rev. Jay
Amundson officiating. Burial will follow
immediately in Lovilia Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, Monday,
June 8, 2009 at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Lovilia with the family present
from 6-8 PM.
For
those desiring, memorials may be designated to the Lovilia United Methodist
Church.
